Another Reason Why The NHL Is In Trouble

Game 5 of the NHL Stanley Cup is going head to head tonight with Game 2 of the NBA Finals. IF it isn't bad enough the finals for the NHL are not affiliated with ESPN programming, now comissioner Gary Bettman doesn't see an issue with going up against the more popular NBA finals? Why not choose to play at 4 or 5pm? There would be more of a chance of people outside of Philadelphia and Chicago tuning in if it is leading up to the NBA Finals than if it were at the same time. And people wonder why the NHL is in the trouble that it is. Hockey is a sport that when watched on TV loses so much of its intensity. There is so much that happens away from the puck that you just can't always fit in a camera lense. This week game 2 of the Stanley Cup had a 12% increase over last year, but that was driven by a 25.1 local rating in the Chicago area. A repeat of Two and a Half Men blew it away in the Nielson Ratings. So Gary Bettman let's face it, you're an idiot for having game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals go head to head with the NBA Finals. The fight for sports popularity in America is one the NHL cannot win.
